Overview

             Oppression of women in religion has been going on for far too long, and needs to be stopped. It is a major problem that most people in this world don't know much about or choose to ignore. The people that know about the serious issue of oppression of women in religion most of the time think it is in Islamic religions only. But what they don't know is oppression of women is in most major world religions. From Christianity "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent" (Timothy 2:12) to Islam “Men have authority over women, for that God has preferred in bounty one of them over another, and for that they have expended of their property. Righteous women are therefore obedient … and those you fear may be rebellious, admonish them to their couches, and beat them”(The Koran, Women, verse 38) to Buddhism, oppression of women is everywhere.
              With oppression of women, comes ignorance about it. This is shown time and time again, and could be proven simply by going to any major city and just asking people in the streets a few simple questions about oppression. The plain and simple facts are, people don't know that much about this oppression happening on a daily basis in other third world countries. It gives a "if i don't see it, it i didn't happen" attitude about the topic. These people are blind to the fact that oppression is in our everyday lives, gender roles, discrimination, mistreatment. All common things even in the United States, women are treated differently with almost everything they do, whether we realize it or not. From different pay wages, to who is staying home to take care of children it is all oppression of the "equal rights" each and every woman has reserved for her.
